Introduction

                             Chakra Gudi is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, located on the banks of the Malaprabha River in the heart of Aihole, an historical town, in Bagalkot District in Karnataka, India. The temple is situated on the southern end of Durga Temple Complex.

Puranic Significance 

                 The temple is believed to be built in 7 th century CE by Chalukyas and later extensively renovated by Rashtrakutas in 9th century CE.

Special Features

This east-facing temple comprises a sanctum and a Ranga Mandapa. It is renowned for its 20 sculptures depicting amorous couples intricately engraved on the door frame of the sanctum. The lintel of the sanctum features carvings of Garuda holding two snakes. The shikara, or tower, above the sanctum follows the architectural style of Nagara. The temple is named Chakragudi due to the shape of the amalaka, a decorative stone disk, crowning its shikara. Adjacent to Chakra Gudi, there is a Pushkarini, a temple tank.
