Introduction

Adamangalam Abathsagayeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Adamangalam village, Thirukkuvalai taluk, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. Adithan was worshiped by the sun, so Adithanmangalam became Adhamangalam. Adamangalam is situated on the banks of a small river called Chittaru. Here is a Shiva temple facing east on the roadside, opposite the temple there is a beautiful pond and a school building nearby. Here the Presiding deity is called as Abathsagayeswarar and Mother is called as Soundaranayaki.

Puranic Significance

The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old. The front hall of the temple is built with black stone and above it with brick. There is a medium sized lingamurthi of the Lord in the eastern sanctum. The Lord has a south-facing sanctum. There is a mandapam connecting the two shrines in front of the lord.

Atmanandi is facing Lord Nandi in the outside of the hall. At the gate of the shrine in the Mukhamandapam there is Vinayagar and Vallitheivana sametha murugan. In the north-east corner of the same hall there is a Sundesar and a large Bhairava, a large Sun idol. Tenmugan is the only one in the sanctum circle.
