Introduction
Agastheeshwarar Temple is dedicated to God Shiva located at Visur Village in Uthiramerur Taluk of Kanchipuram District. This holy shrine is situated about 14 Kms from Uthiramerur. It is known from the inscriptions that this place was earlier called Vishwa City. Presiding deity is called as Agastheeshwarar and the Goddess is named Akilandeswari Ambal.
Puranic Significance
The scriptures in the temple mythologize that the Goddess took Viswaroopam to have darshan of the Lord. Shri Arunagirinathar sang the praise of Lord Muruga who dwells in this temple. The imposing idol of Lord Dakshinamurthi who blesses the devotees in this temple is unparalleled. There is a holy tank adjacent to the temple. Manthara tree is the divine tree for the temple. The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. On the Thai Poosam Day, the God is taken to Seyyaru for Theerthavari festival. Masi Magam is also a special festival in this temple.
