Introduction
Veeramangalam Shiva Temple is dedicated to lord shiva, located in the Veeramangalam village, Valangaiman Taluk, Thiruvarur District, Tamil Nadu state, India. This small town is located on the north bank of the river. This is the town where the land was allotted for the eternal pooja of the Chidambaram Natarajar Temple. The Temple is believed to be 500- 1000 years old. The town is located at a distance of 20 km from Kumbakonam, on the Pattiswaram – Avur road.
Puranic Significance
This is a large Chola temple in the east of the town and the temple was destroyed due to the change of time and the migration of Shiva worshipers. The prakaras were occupied and turned into a school and a canteen. All the departments are pushing and shoving as Shiva’s property is being manipulated. A few years ago, small barns were built inside the temple and work was halted. Statues of the Chola period, once adorned with handcuffs, are now on display. “With the kind permission of Sri Kadambur K. Vijayan, these are extracted from his posts”.
