Introduction
The temple is about 1000 years old Shiva temple. Among the inscriptions found in this temple, Rajaraja II has given a lot of lands to Kasakudi temple such as Thirumurtham, Thirumadai Valaka Nandavanam, Kalikkarpaka Nandavanam, Thirumugai Nandavanam and forty eight thousand Nandavanam. This Vadamattam town is located at a distance of 3 km on the Nedunkadu – Kottucherry road. The shrine is located at the bottom of a large pond. Adjacent to the temple is the Nedungadu Road to the north. The shrines are all in good condition. This Vadamattam temple is in very dilapidated condition.
Puranic Significance
This northern level temple has a specialty that other temples in Karaikal do not have, as it is located in the same complex as the Shiva temple and the Vaishnava temple. Shiva temple facing east, the Lord has the sanctum facing east and the Goddess has the sanctum facing south. Both sanctuaries are connected by a home hall. Nandi is in a separate hall. On the left side of the gate of the sanctum sanctorum there is a separate monastery of Ganesha, and on the right there is a monastery of Lord Murugan which has completely collapsed. The facade walls are completely dilapidated and missing. The temple is built entirely of brick and limestone and has been in a state of disrepair over time. The dimensions of the sanctuary walls themselves have changed differently. Everywhere plants and trees are rooted and the part is greatly degraded. Directly behind the sanctum sanctorum is the Murugan Monastery. Adjacent to the shrine is a complete large lingam, followed by a lingam on the outer wall and the lower part of the audaiyar, with a small Nagar statue lying on it. These two lingamurtis may have been in a hall in the west. The Sanders Sanctuary is in the usual part, and he too has not escaped the ruins. To the north and east of the temple is the separate Lakshminarayan temple, in which the fade hall has collapsed, and in front of him is a small hall with his great Thiruvati Garuda. The idol is seen in many temples wearing a gold and silver robe and a crown. It is not known whether the plane above is dependent on the tree or whether the tree is dependent on the plane. “With the kind permission of Sri Kadambur K. Vijayan, these are extracted from his posts”.
