Introduction
The village is located at a distance of 120 km from Chennai and 18 km on the road from Tindivanam to Uppuvelur. The Perumal Temple is located in the western part of the town. Vishnu Temple is also known as Devaraja Perumal Koil. This stone temple is constructed with a unique style of Rajendra Chola I, facing eastern side and consists of Sanctum Sanctorum, Ardhamandapam and Maha mandapam. Inscriptions of Rajendra Chola I is mentioned about the names of the Lakes as “Kaalakanda Pereri”, “Kandarathiththa Pereri”. The name of the Lord is stated in the inscription as ‘Arinjaya Vinnakar Veerriyatha Alvar’. The inscription of Raja Mahendran 3rd year rule in this temple indicates that there was a Jain temple called Suyadara Chola Perumpalli.
