Introduction

Inside the Thirumayam Fort, a cave temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva with a single room on the west side of the fort. A Shiva lingam is carved in the mother rock in the middle of the floor in the cave temple. This lingam is square in shape and special. At the entrance of the cave there are two half pillars on each side and a diameter above. Archaeological Survey of India has set up iron stairs to go to the cave. The fort has entrances from the western part of the city, which are protected by the Archaeological Survey of India.
