Introduction

What could be the reason for a temple to fall into disrepair? The temple is isolated from the main town and cannot be maintained by them from private control due to lack of proper priests. Because the devotees did not come willingly. Some of the above reasons also apply to this temple. Kammiyampettai is a place where Kedilam crosses a bridge near the Cem mantalam on the Ketilam River which flows through Cuddalore. Once a secluded burial ground, it is now part of the main city. Area Cummings Bat, named after William Cumming, who ruled Cuddalore in 1778. It is now known as Maruvi Commianpet. The area was destroyed by Tipu Sultan’s troops in 1798, leaving the weaver families in ruins. The Rudreswarar Shiva Temple is located slightly to the east of the main road. # “With the kind permission of Sri Kadambur K. Vijayan, these are extracted from his posts”.

Puranic Significance

The name Rudresuvar may have come from the fact that the temple is located in the Rudrasa part of the temple, north of the Tirupatipulliyur Shiva Temple. It is an urban temple but has yet to be renovated. To the east is a three-tiered royal tower. We know that the Shiva temple was built here during the reign of Sankara Naidu, who was a great landowner. The road to the south of the Tirupatipulliyur temple is still named after him. The temple was in ruins before his way out of the city. For some years now, the people of the area have been holding festivals like Pradosh, Shivaratri and Annabhishekam. However, the temple looks like a brick that has not been rebuilt. Lord Rudreswarar is the great linga idol facing east. There is a long hall in the faade. A statue of Nandi has been placed in it recently. There is no shrine to the goddess. There is the Sanders Sanctuary. There are no statues in the sanctum sanctorum Currently the temple is open daily morning and evening and the crowd of devotees has increased on special days. The temple authorities soon repaired.

Special Features

Additional information from an internet friend; The place was not originally a place of public worship As one of the heirs of the Sankara Naidu family I am obliged to disclose the details. Sankarayya Naidu, who was the Zamindar of Naduveerapattu and Chennappa Nayakkan camp, was given a place by the British government to bury the dead in the Zamindar family during the British rule. Adi Sankaraiah was buried at the present location of the Shivalingam and a Shivalingam was erected as a memorial to it. Otherwise it is not a temple. A place reserved for burying the dead.
