Introduction
The Rudrakshapureeswarar Temple, located on the banks of the Cauvery in Mayanur [Karur District], was hidden from view by vines.Nearby is the Perumal Temple. However, the temple is located in a wider area than the Perumal temple. We see the lingam inside the temple. Audaiyar lies a little distance away. We see other idols.Malikpur or Aurangzeb came and went and left it in a state of disarray. Large pond is found on the side.By that count, it seems that there must have been a very large temple complex. The perimeter wall is seen. The large amount of land around it suggests that the temple must have been very large Other shrines on the side may have been demolished, or parts that were in such a state may have been discarded. The most important thing to note is that no expensive or other important items are found. No urn was found on the tower. Thus it is assumed that of course all of the expensive items were carried away over a period of time. These temples may have been demolished when Haidar Ali-Tipu Sultan invaded .However, as the temples continue to be renovated, and again they remain in a state of disrepair, the question arises as to who caused such destruction.
