Introduction
This temple was built during the reign of the Pandyas in the 2nd century CE. During the later Pandya rule, agricultural lands were donated to the temple for eternal worship and festival expenses. It was customary to call the town of the temple where the dharmas were given by the suffix Nallur, thus the town became known as Nallur. The temple is located on the north side of the town, facing east. The temple was badly damaged during the alien invasion in the early 14th century AD. However, the people also worshiped Lord Linkeswarar Nandi unless the construction of the temple was in ruins. Lingeswarar and Nandithevar, who had been lying in the sun and rain for centuries, had a small room in the form of a temple. The poojas is being celebrated with much fanfare. They are also trying to build a huge temple in the future. Unlike other temples, the temple faces slightly to the northeast corner, not to the east.
Puranic Significance
At one time, the clouds were imprisoned by the wrath of Indra. History says that the captured clouds were released by the devotion of the Pandya king. There was a connection between this and the Thiruuttarakosamangai site sung by Manikkavasagar Perumal.
Beliefs
At that time a monk set out on a pilgrimage from Uttarakhand to this town. He came here and stayed in Kadambavanam for some time and performed penance. At that time he dedicated the lingam he worshiped as the source and built the temple. During the reign of Pandya, the sanctum sanctorum and the ArthaMandapam were built in a beautiful work style as a beautiful stone temple. There are two daily pujas. It is the custom of the devotees here to perform another Pradosa worship with their hands in gratitude when the request made during a Pradosa worship is fulfilled.
