Introduction
The Foot Temple is located at a distance of fifty feet from theIdayamadamjain temple in SP Pattinam, between Mimisal and Thondi, by the Ramanathapuram Archaeological and Historical Conservation Centre.. It is in a forest of ‘kaattukaruvai’ trees. Between the four pillars is a pair of feet set of stone with a small plane at the top. On both the pillars there is a sculpture of two worshipers. They have an umbrella structure over their heads. So it is certain that this is a foot temple built by the Jains. The Intermediate Jain School must have been in worship until the 14th century. It was later abandoned by the SamaNars and was in a state of disrepair during the reign of the Sethupathi kings and may have been used as a monastery by the people of the area. This is confirmed by the fact that the intermediary is mentioned when demarcating the border in a septum issued by KizhavaSethupathi
