Introduction
It is located at a distance of 316 km from Chennai on the Trichy-Thirupainjili road and next to Mannachanallur at Gopurappatti, about 15 km from Trichy. The temple is located at a distance of 1 km from the Amalieswarar Temple. Its gate faces east. In the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, there is a lingam with 16 bands, (Tharalingam) in the shape of a lotus flower and carvings. Next to the sanctum is the Artha Mandapam. Next to the Ardha Mandapam, the Mahamandapam is in ruins.
Puranic Significance
The plane of the temple is built in the Dravidian style of architecture and the plane is made of bricks. There are very engraved Chola inscriptions on the site. Also in the perimeter of the temple are carved pillars, pedestals, roofs, etc. separated from the temple building. The temple was built during the early Chola period. Also, the dancing mothers mentioned in the Tanjore Periyakoil caveat have been living in this town. It is known from the inscriptions that land was donated to them in this town. The town is 1000 years old and has a lot of historical significance. The temple was built during the reign of Uttama Chola, the son of Chola king. The inscriptions of the temple refer to the kings Uttama Chola, Rajaraja I and Rajendran I.
