Introduction

Sooranur is a small Village in Thiruvarur Block in Thiruvarur District of Tamil Nadu State, India. It is located 10 KM towards East Tiruvarur 299 KM from State capital Chennai. The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. There are more than a hundred temples dedicated to the sun. Suranur is one of the temples located in the sooranur/ Suranur village. Suran means sun, there are two temples here. A Shiva temple is located north of the main road. Its name is Dharmapuriswarar Temple. Another temple is located on the south side of the town. There must have been a big temple here in the past. The large lingam and a large Ganesha statue were isolated and a separate shed has been set up for the renovation of the present Iyengar temple.
