Introduction
Sholampettai village is located at the 4 km on the Mayiladuthurai- Kallanai road. There are two Shiva temples in this town. 1. Thanthondreeswarar 2. Alagiyanathar. The east-facing temple is very dilapidated over time as it is built entirely of bricks. The temple is six hundred years old. This place where Purushamirugam was worshiped.
Puranic Significance
There is no tower on the faade of the swastika. Inside the Lord Nathar is beautiful in the form of a medium-sized linga facing east. Mahamandapam is a conical hall. The small hall in the corridor was formerly used to house the nobles. The hall to the south of the Lord is in ruins. There are both Ganesha and Lord Murugan in Prakaram. To the left of the Lord is Ambika Dharmasamvartini facing east. Nearby is the Sandesar Sanctuary. A rare sight in the Northeast is the view of the south facing Bhairav from a separate monastery. The south-facing Bhairav is the one who can remove all our misery in an instant. In the west facing hall there are two Nagar idols and Lord Saturn. The palace has beautiful carvings of the Sun, Balamurugan and two Sambandar idols. Thus it may be the place of Vaipu sthalam, sung by Sambandar. “With the kind permission of Sri Kadambur K. Vijayan, these are extracted from his posts”.
