Introduction

Senganur next to Achuthamangalam. The Senganur bus stand is located at a distance of 2 km on the Achuthamangalam-Nachiyarkoil road. There is a bus stop, from where you can reach Sanganur town by crossing the Mudikondan river in the south and walking half a km. It may have been called Chengannan by the name of Shiva. Lord Somanatha Swamy has a temple on the south bank of a large pond, Goddess – Sivakamasundari. There is no medium sized Shiva temple tower. Seen from the front it looks like a wide hall. The front hall is a bat-infested hall with a shrine. Above the entrance of the Somnath Swamy Temple is a large plaque, Sivakama Sundari Sanathi Somnath Swamy Temple – Sarva Toshiba Parikara Thalam. Inside is the sanctuary of the Lord, the Arthamandapam. There are no shrines in Prakaram. Next, the Mahamandapam. Here the Sun, Saturn, and Bairavar have risen towards the source. When it comes to Prakaram Valam, the divisions include Thenmugan, Linkodpavar, Brahman and Durga. According to the temples, there are statues of Lord Vishnu. An ancient well can be found in the same courtyard. The temple is open for worship both in the morning and in the evening. The house of the priests is near the temple. The temple plane hall is in a state of disrepair.

Puranic Significance

On the left side of the Saneeswarar Moolavar, on the side of the Ardha Mandapam, there is a rare and distinct view of Lord Murugan having a shrine. This is the place where Saneeswaran swore allegiance to Lord Murugan, saying, “I will not harm those who come here and worship Lord Murugan.” Nearby are Nagar and Narthana Ganapati. On both sides of the entrance to the Mahamandapa, Ganesha and Paladantayuthapani are about to be killed. Nearby is the Natarajar Sanctuary facing south. To the right of the hall, facing south is the Ambal Sivakama Sundari Sannathi. Ambika is carrying a flower on both hands, on a standing pedestal, and holding abhaya and varata seals on both hands. To the east of the sanctum sanctorum is the Somnath Swami Linga Murthy. The temple is referred to as Seva thosam, Mangalya thosam and Sakalababa Nivarti Talam. That is why this temple is known as the universal sanctuary. Here one can worship Saneeswara and Lord Murugan and get rid of Thosam by chanting the name of Swami. # “With the kind permission of Sri Kadambur K. Vijayan, these are extracted from his posts”.
