Introduction
The Rohtasgarh or Rohtas Fort is located in the Son River valley, in the small town of Rohtas in Bihar, India. Rohtas Shiva Temple also called as Chaurasan temple. Named ‘chaurasan’ because of 84 stairs at the entrance of the temple. The temple was constructed by Raja Harishchandra in 7th century. The legend about this temple is that Raja Harishchandra did Yagya for a ‘santaan’ at this place. After 84 times his son Rohtiswa was born and the temple is built on the top of the ashes. Iconoclasts probably destroyed the roof and the main mandap, which housed the sacred lingam. Now only 84 steps are left, which lead to a temple. The temple is in dilapidated condition.
