Introduction
Rishiyur is located at a distance of 2 km from Needamangalam on the eastern road, the town was known as Pilisur, which was in the Pampani claim of the Cholas. The Shiva temple in this town is called Lord Thiruakathiswaramudaiyar. Lord Periyanayanar and Lord Saraswati were resurrected here for worship. Rishiyur became the place where Viswanatha Maharishi was worshiped and blessed. The temple is located in the center of the village and has an entrance hall with four legs and a Nandi hall in front of it. The sanctum sanctorum is surrounded by conical shaped halls built in the Nayakar period style. There are shrines dedicated to Ganesha Viswanatha Maharishi, Visalachchi Murugan Valli Devanai Ayyanar and Kalikambal Saraswati. The sculptures of the Kulothunga emperor Thirumal Brahman Agora Veerapathirar, Arthanariswarar and Gayathri Tapasu in the vicinity of Tenmugan add to the team in the sanctum sanctorum.
