Introduction
Palakkollai village is located in Virudhachalam Tehsil of Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu, India. It is situated 22km away from sub-district Virudhachalam and 82km away from district headquarter Cuddalore. The temple is believed to be 500- 1000 years’ old shiva temple. Presiding deity is called as Alakeswarar, and Mother is called as Azhagammai. To the west of the temple is a large lake. There are many temples in the town like Perumal, Veeran and Durga. This is a large and beautiful Shiva temple in the centre of this town. Kuppamuthu Achari inscription is found in two places in this temple.
Puranic Significance
Lord Alakeswarar has facing the east side, and the Ambigai on his left side facing. Other deities are Murugan and Ganesha. The temple, which was seen as a big temple, a large complex, for some reason forgot to maintain it for the last few generations. The temple is so dilapidated. How the temple is now? 1. Lord Alakeswarar, The construction work of the lord sanctum sanctorum has been completed but Painting work still bending in the temple. 2. Work as been done for mother and Murugan sanctuary. But still the Brick and cement required for aircraft construction work. 4. Navagraha hall still in under-construction. 5. For raising the perimeter wall of the temple to a height of 10 feet, it needs 65,000 brick to complete. 7. Ganesha Temple is completely destroyed and must be rebuilt. 8.
