Introduction
Nayampadi Sri Jalagandeswarar Temple is located from Pannavadi village to Nayampadi village, Salem district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The temple is located in the centre of the Mettur Dam and it is the largest dam in south Indian. The historical Nandi statue, which used to get submerged when the dam gets filled up, have now surfaced fully. The tower of the Jalagandeswarar Temple, behind the Nandi statue, has started surfacing, so also another historical landmark Raja Fort at Kottaiyur. The gigantic Nandi statue of Sri Jalakandeshwarar temple, which were submerged when the Stanley Reservoir reached its full capacity, at Nayampadi level in Cauvery near Mettur has come down. This Temples Only Appear When Mettur Dam Water Level Goes Under Fifty Feet
Puranic Significance
The Jalakandeswarar temple was built by the rulers of Mysore kingdom about 300 years ago, while the church towers were built by a priest named Antony in 1902 during the British rule. Both the temple and the church towers were built at Nayampadi village near Mettur. The villagers had to relocate to facilitate the Stanley Reservoir project. They did not demolish the Nandi statue. The Nandi statue and the temple hardly have damage though they get submerged whenever water level raise.
