Introduction
The town where the Chola kings lived in this region was called Malavarayanallur. Many Malavarayanallur are located in Cuddalore and Ariyalur districts. This town is located at a distance of 4 km on the Sethiyathoppu-Kumbakonam Highway NH36 and at Kumarakudi a road divides to Srimushnam. This shiva temple is located.
Puranic Significance
The Vedapuriswarar Shiva Temple, built during the Rajaraja Chola period. It is reported that the temple was demolished during the British rule and the black stones were taken to build the nearby Sethiyathoppu Dam. After that the people of Agraharam brought lingam and other idols and built a small temple to worship Lord Shiva. The Lord Vedapuriswarar is facing east, Goddess name not known. Other Idols are Ganesha, Murugan, Sandesar, Nandi. However, locals say the Hindu temple department has not made any effort to rebuild this ancient temple. “With the kind permission of Sri Kadambur K.
