Introduction
Kovilam Poondi is located 3 km northeast of Chidambaram. After crossing the carriageway at the entrance of Cuddalore Road Chidambaram, the Kovilampoondi road divides at a place called Pallipadai. Koovilam is one of the 99 flowers that the women played with. Boondi means garden, and as it was a Vilva forest, Koovilam was called Poondi and later Kovilam Poondi. The village road crosses a railroad and curves left and right toward it, and as you enter the ornamental archway of a town adjoining the small canal bridge, a linga Panam is placed facing east on the slope of the railroad mound. “With the kind permission of Sri Kadambur K. Vijayan, these are extracted from his posts”.
Puranic Significance
There is a Nandi on the opposite side facing east, with a sculpture of Jashta Devi facing east, and a broken idol of Lord Vishnu a little closer … When the railway line was laid during the British rule It is understood that the 7th century Shiva temple here must have been demolished and discarded. These are the only ones left to eat over time. The sky was the roof, the rain was the anointing, the sound of the gangmen knocking was the bell.
