Introduction
From Virudhachalam, Cuddalore District – Veppur Crossroads. Kothanur is located 2 km to the south. This Shiva temple is a large temple on the east bank of a large lake in this town, hence the temple got name as Kothanur. The myth of the temple is dates back to the 15th century when the Nayaks ruled. It’s completely abandoned temple, with crumbling walls. The Lord has the sanctuary facing east, and In front of the shrine of the Lord there is a broken pond in which water is stagnant in, which two pigs are playing.
Puranic Significance
In pillar inscription there are a few lines of explanation of the Dharma given by Koyilkothanur Nattar Chethirayar Alagappanattar Kumarar Ramalinganattar. The Perumal Temple, the Ganesha Temple, the Murugan Temple and the Mariamman Temple are located in the grounds at the front of the temple. There is a statue of Tenmugan in front of it and a lion. It is different from other temple. The nearby Ganesha Kottam is empty. At the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum, there is a Ganesha and a Bhairavar. “With the kind permission of Sri Kadambur K.
