Introduction

Lower is located on the south bank of the Mudikondan River, about 3 km west of Nannilam. The Jananathan canal runs through the town, and has been called by many names such as Keela, Jananathan, Attipakkam, Keelagaram, but is now known as Keelagaram. The temple faces east and has a decorative arch of the facade wall. The complex is surrounded by a large walled enclosure. To the west of the temple is a large Theertham pond. The temple was demolished in 2009, but its glory has not been extended to outsiders as it is an inclusive village. The temple concludes its duty with a one-time puja. Fortunately, Chandrasekaran, a retired civil servant near the temple, keeps the temple open. There are many trees around the temple. So leaf slips are more likely to germinate.

Puranic Significance

The Lord looks beautiful with the square pedestal facing east. The Ardha Mandapam before the Lord and the Mahamandapam are built entirely of granite. There are no other deity. It is unfortunate that the front hall of the South Face was built to hide the inscriptions during the turnaround as usual. The Durga Sanctuary is newly taken apart and there are some ancient idols outside the garden. The Ambigai temple alone faces south. # “With the kind permission of Sri Kadambur K. Vijayan, these are extracted from his posts”.
