Introduction

Gopal Tirtha Matha is situated on the left side of Mangalamundi lane, Tiadi Sahi. The matha is belongs to Saivite sector. The Adisankarachaarya, founder of Gobardhan matha had four disciples & this matha established by one of the disciples. The other three discples also established monasteries one each named Mahi Prakash matha, Shiva tirtha matha, Sankarananda matha. Several branch of these monasteries were also established in Bhubaneswar. The enshrined deity is a Four armed Bhubaneswari (a form of Durga), who holds Nagaphasa & Ankusha in upper two hands and abhaya & barada mudra in lower two hands. Shiva, Durga, Radha Krishna, Laxminarayan, Rama, Laxmana, Sita, Salagram, Gopal are also worshipped there. And the most important thing is, this matha provided the Hatibesha for Lord Balsbhadra held during the Snan Jatra. The Large courtyard and varanda had some murals and sculpture which was fully ruined and emerged into the dust. The open Jagmohana and in the doorjamb of the main temple, two Ganesha idol is situated. In the Western side there is a makara torana sorounded by two magaras and parrots, used for any ritualistic work. A series of nine burial temples situated near the east side of the matha. Before the 2013, the matha is present in a quiet good state. But after that the 90% of buildings of matha collapsed. The half of the jagmohan is in the state of disrepair and there is no mahanta in the matha.
