Introduction
The temple is located at a distance of 22 km from the new bus stand in Tirunelveli. Nainar Kulam is a village located at a distance of 3 km from Melacheval on the Palayankottai – Cheranmakhadevi road. The temple is located on the banks of the Tamira barani river in the town. The Tamirabarani River, which flowed several thousand years ago, has changed its course. It is thought that many temples may have been submerged and buried while changing its course. If such buried temples are revealed at some point, it is undeniable that the reason for that is the glory of that temple and the grace of God, not everything. One such event took place in the Chuthamalli Tamira barani river area. The oldest temple to emerge there is the ‘Gomati Ambal Sametha Kandaruvariswarar Nainar of Angundeesuram’ temple About 18 thousand Siddhas, sages and deities are worshiped in this revision which is about 5 thousand years old. Kulasekara Alwar, Kulothungan I, Veeramarthandavarman, Parakrama Pandian and Kollangonda Udayan rebuilt the temple. Such a temple has been ruined by the change of time. During that time, the Tamirabarani River was frequently flooded due to heavy rains during the month. Due to this, the Siddhar forest area, which is divided into two parts by Tamirabarani, was submerged. The Angundeeswarar temple of Siddheeswaramudaiyar Nainar, which was on the bank at that time, was buried in the sand. The place was surrounded by water. Due to a severe drought in Tirunelveli district a few years ago, the Tamiraparani in Chuttamalli area has dried up without water. The Siddhiswarar Temple, which was buried at a depth of about 8 feet due to continuous sand filling, was discovered in April 2013. The people of the area removed the pile of sand by the action of the servants and the whole form of the temple was visible outside. There is a Shiva lingam in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. It is full of water all around. This state is always the same as Shiva being cold on the Kayalaya hill. Ambal is not here. It is believed that the statue may have been swept away in the river flood. Currently, only Swami is worshiped daily. The Shiva temple inside the Tamirabarani river is the ‘Adi Talam’. While the temple was submerged in water, a temple was built on the south side to worship Lord Shiva. That temple still exists. Similarly, the Gandharvan temple is on the north side. The place is revered as a wonderful place where three temples are located in the same place in the middle of the river and on both sides of the river. It is special to worship one of these three temples together. “With the kind permission of Sri Kadambur K. Vijayan, these are extracted from his posts”.
Puranic Significance
Once upon a time, Goddess Saraswati was cursed by the sage Durvasa. To remove that curse, Goddess Saraswati came to Siddharth with Brahman to perform penance. Vishwakarma, the sculptor of the deity, designed a lingam for her to worship. The lingam was blessed on the rock as a self-portrait. The name for the lingam that originated in Siddharth is ‘Siddhis Varar’. Agathiyar has been worshiping this Easan in the early days. He came to Pack Mountain to level the world. There he was eager to worship Lord Shiva. He used to go to Tamirabarani river bank every day as a pilgrim. Then he stood in this place and prayed, “Eesane, I must worship you as you are in Kayilayamalai.” Then Lord Saraswati performed puja and appeared before Agathiyar. Immediately Agathiyar said, “Lord! They are Kayilayanathar. Who lives rebelliously on a snowy mountain. Did you appear here too? ” He asked in surprise. Then “If I am there” was heard by an asariri vote. So Agathiyar named this Lord ‘Angundeeswarar’ and worshiped him. On the auspicious day with the star Parani, Adisankar dedicates Sreesakara at Italam and celebrates the Meena-Parani festival. It is said that Sri Sri Mata, the mother of Sreesakra, is worshiping Aesan here. The Eleven Siddhas and their predecessor, Sri Santhanu Mahanu Paul Siddhartha, worshiped Itala Siddhisvara and devoted all their power to this temple before embarking on their medical research. Hence this Lord is also known as ‘Adi Marundeeswarar’. Times have passed. The floodwaters receded in Tamiraparani. Then Karuvur Siddhar left to worship in many Shiva temples and came to visit Siddhiswara. Lord Shiva was seen standing at the Tirtha stage of the installment at Chuttamalli. The Lord is drowning. “How can I worship you?” As prayed. Then a shriek sounded. Worship the Lord in the temple built by Gandharvan on the north side. He and I are the only ones who can say, “If I was there (in the Tamirabarani river), I would be here (in the north).” That is why Shiva in the North also got the name ‘Angundeesramudaiyar’. A Gandharvan turned into a stork by the curse of Durvasar. He repented thinking of Lord Shiva to get his self-image. Adam went to the state of Samadhi without moving. Brahma made Goddess Kasalika run into a river from the top of Pulinda hill. The river hit the Gandharva, which was in a state of samadhi, from a great distance and threw it on the bank of the Tamiraparani river. When Gandharvan awoke, he saw the ashram of Agnisika, the Rishi goddess. It was consecrated and worshiped there on the advice of Sage Bharathwaja, Gandharvan. Then Eesan appeared in the Rishabha vehicle as Sankaranarayana. The lord was named ‘Kandaveswarar’. Gandharvan was absolved of the curse and went to heaven. However, on the annual Pisces-Barani star, it is said that the gods come here to worship Lord Shiva Rishipathini gave a coffin full of stones to Gandharva. With that he came to worship. In a few days all the stones in the coffin became Shivalinga together. Rishipathini gave a coffin full of stones to Gandharva. With that he came to worship. In a few days all the stones in the coffin became Shivalinga together.
Beliefs
Gandharvan was absolved of the curse and went to heaven. However, on the annual Pisces-Barani star, it is said that the gods come here to worship Lord Shiva. Sage Sudhama, a disciple of Vedaviyasar, sang the glory song of this temple in the Tamirabarani Mahatma. It is said that if one worships the Lord in the Pisces-Barani star coming in the month of Panguni in this temple, all good deeds will be obtained.
