At present the Shiva temple is not there, only the big Linga panam is there. The Kalavellam or Cauvery flood destory the temple. The big linga panam audaiyar is broken and lying outside. A Nandi and an altar are placed outside in front of the Lord. The Ayyanar Temple is dedicated to the idols of Tenmugan, Jashta Devi and Sandesar. Let us consider Lord Gangadhar as the name of the Lord may be the name of the village.
Puranic Significance
Once upon a time the Lord wanted to hear the meaning of the Pranava mantra from his child Sri Murugapperuman and it was called Tirukkailai from Thirukkailai.. Ambika Parvati, Nandi, Ganapati and Navagraha with her consort. Indira Devas also came to Thiruvaiyar. Parameswaran knows this very well. So Emberuman, who had risen from there to Swamimalai, was the only disciple who asked Sri Murugapperuman to ask him the meaning of Pranava, Someswarapuram, to stay in the entourage, he dropped the Ganges on his head at Gangadharpuram. It became Gangaipuram and became Gangadharpuram. # “With the kind permission of Sri Kadambur K. Vijayan, these are extracted from his posts”.
