Introduction
Banteay Prei is a Buddhist temple located near to another small temple called Prasat Prei. The nearest major temple is Preah Khan. This Buddhist temple was built in the Bayon style by King Jayavarman VII in the late 12th or early 13th century. Banteay Prei, largely in ruin and has recently had partially restoration works completed on the north gopura., featuring an outer wall, an inner moat that is crossed by causeways on the west and east, basins, an inner galleried enclosure with four gopuras and pavilions on each corner, all of which enclosed a single inner sanctuary. The door jambs also rich tapestry that became common in temples of the era. The eastern entrance that crosses the moat, can see the remains of what would have been a short but ornate naga balustrade including a large garuda on naga end ornamentation presently lying on the ground.
