Introduction
Located at a distance of 316 km from Chennai on the Trichy – Thirupainivi road, next to Mannachanallur, it is about 15 km from Trichy in a small town called Gopurappatti. In the inscriptions of this town, it is referred to as Pachil and the town section is referred to as Mala Natta Rajasaraya Valanadu Pachil The names of Uttama Chola, Rajaraja I, and Rajayathiran I are mentioned in the inscription. Sembian Madhavi, the mother of Uttara Chola, the goddess of Kandarathitta Chola, has given moonlights to the temple. The temple is built around 975 AD.
