Introduction
Alambakkam Kailasanathar Temple is a Shiva temple located in Alambakkam village, Tiruchirappalli district in Tamil Nadu. It is 316 km from Chennai. It is located at a distance of 3 km from Lalgudi on the Trichy-Thirumalapadi road. The shiva temple is Located in the distance. The temple was renovated during the reign of Paranthakan I who ruled till the 10th century. The base of the sanctuary plane in the temple was not found. From the basement to the roof is the curb. The entire temple has been renovated. But still the temple is in dilapidated condition. No sculptures were found in the temple premises. The temple is a simple building structure. Inscriptions can be seen on the wall around the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
Puranic Significance
The primary deity of the temple is in the form of Shivalingam Audaiyar. The temple is surrounded by inscriptions from the time of Paranthakan I. The sanctum sanctorum of the temple was built during the reign of the Pallava king Nandivarman. Inscriptions say that during the reign of Rajaraja II, the Siva Brahmins in the town borrowed some money from the temple treasury and agreed to pay interest on the temple.
