Introduction

Karkadeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Manavur village near Thiruvalangadu in Thiruvallur District of Tamilnadu. Presiding Deity is called as Karkadeswarar and Mother is called as Kamakshi. The Village Manavur was called as Manavur Kottam during Chozha period. The temples in Manavur has been built with perfect alignment as mentioned in the Aagama Sastras (Karshanathi, Prathishtandham, Prathishtandhi, Uthsavandham and Uthsavandhi). Karkadeswarar Temple is built in Easanya, Vijayaraghava Perumal temple in Nirudhi moola, Sakthi Ganapathi temple facing north and Kandasamy temple facing east have been consecrate. As per Hindu Mythology, Lord Shiva gave salvation to a Crab (Nandu or Karkada) here. The Temple is now in good condition.. Daily poojas are taken palace.
