Introduction

• Location: Situated in Periyanaickenpalayam Town, Coimbatore North Taluk, Tamil Nadu, on the Coimbatore to Mettupalayam route.

Puranic Significance

• History: Believed to have been built in the 13th century CE and rebuilt in the 1970s.
• Literary Mention: The temple is mentioned in the hymns of Sivavakiya Siddhar, one of the 18 famous Siddhars.
• Ancient Name: The place was known as Koodalur in ancient times.
• Temple Structure:
  • Orientation: Facing east with a three-tiered rajagopuram (temple tower).
  • Deepa Sthambam: Present in front of the rajagopuram.
  • Presiding Deity: Lord Chokkalingeswarar, in the form of a Lingam.
  • Mother Deity: Meenakshi, housed in a separate shrine.
  • Other Shrines:
    • Lord Nataraja with consort Shivagami.
    • Chintamani Vinayaga, Sapta Matrikas, Venugopala Swamy with consorts Radha & Rukmini.
