Introduction

Thulukkanathamman Temple is dedicated to Goddess Sakthi located in the neighbourhood of West Mambalam in Chennai City in Tamil Nadu. The Temple is situated on the Lake View Road. This temple is situated on the middle of the Lake View road between Ramakrishnapuram to Durai Swamy Subway. The Temple is located at about 1 Km from T Nagar Bus Terminus, 1.5 Kms from Mambalam Railway Station, and 10 Kms from Chennai Airport.

Puranic Significance

The Temple is believed to be 500-1000 years old. The temple is facing east with an entrance arch on the east side. Presiding Deity is called as Thulukkanathamman. The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum, antarala and an Artha mandapam/ front mandapam. Palipeedam and Lion Vehicle, Urchavars are situated in the antarala. Ganapathy and Lord Murugan with his consorts Valli and Devasena can be found at the entrance of the sanctum on both sides. Meenakshi, Visalakshi, Thulukkanathamman, Kamakshi and Durgai are the niche idols located around the sanctum walls. Stucco images of Madurai Veeran with Pommi Amman and Vellai Amman can be found on the east side Mandapam entrance arch. There are shrines for Krishna, Mariamman, Anjaneyar, Shivalinga with Nandhi, Navagrahas, Aiyappan, Dhakshinamoorthy and Naga Idols under the Peepal Tree/ Bodhi tree inside the temple premises. There are shrines for Madurai Veeran with Pommi Amman & Vellai Amman on one side and stucco image of Muneeswarar on the other side on the back side of the sanctum (on the west side entrance). Some of the are found to be old but the temple was completely renovated and looks like recent temple.
