Introduction
Virudhachalam Sri Pattiswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Located in the Virudhachalam town, Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu. Presiding deity is called as Sri Pattiswarar (Lord Shiva) in the form of Lingam. This ancient Shiva temple is more than thousand years old temple in the village. It was the place where various kings from Pallavar to Parantaka Cholan, Kandaraditha Cholan etc are ruled. It is said that this is the lingam on which Patti was painted by the two daughters of the divine cow Kamathenu, Nandini and Patti.This Pattiswarar Temple is an east facing temple behind Virudhachalam Village Administration Office. The Lord is a great Lingamurthy in a single sanctum. The Lord is three feet below the present ground level. Eventually the areas surrounding the womb have become hilly and the womb has become hollow. In front of the Lord is a small Nandi. On the south side of this temple is the ancient Ganesha facing east. Before him, a Nandi has been fixed as a vehicle. Small Mooncheli is also near Vinayaka. His name is Rajaganapati. Nothing exists except these two idols.
