Introduction

The Velukkudi Abhimukteeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located in Velukkudi village, within the Mannargudi Taluk, Thiruvarur District, Tamil Nadu. The temple is known for its rich religious significance and architectural beauty. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Abhimukteeswarar, and the consort is Abhayambika. Puranic Significance

Sanctum and Architecture: The Lord is enshrined in a chamber facing the west. The main gate of the temple is flanked by two stone pillars, and Nagas (serpent deities) are positioned on either side. In front of the deity is a beautifully carved Nandi (the sacred bull) and an altar.
Sub-shrines and Idols:
- Ganesha is situated in a hall to the south-west of the temple, with a small three-wheeled vehicle placed before him.
- Anjaneyar (Hanuman) is located in the northern part of the temple along with Sri Devi and Bhoodevi Vengadachalapathy.
- In the north-west, the shrine of Kasi Viswanathar and Vishalakshi is found, along with Valli and Deivanai, the consorts of Murugan.
- A shrine dedicated to Runa Vimochana is also present, with a small Nandi in front of it.
- Kalabhairava and Mahabhairavavira are enshrined in the north-east of the temple in three separate idols.
- Ganesha is also present on the south side, enshrined in the sanctum sanctorum.
