Introduction
Vaduvur-Vadapadi Kailasanathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Vaduvur-Vadapadi village, Mannargudi circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. Presiding deity is called as Kailasanathar and Mother is called as Vadivazhagi. Vaduvur is also known as ‘Ekadasi Village’ which was given as a grant to scholars on an Ekadasi day by the kings of Tanjore.
Puranic Significance
The temple is said to be more than 1500 years old. The way to this temple is a bit difficult. From the main national highway, take the Ammapet road and then take the Edagiyoor road and go back through a few streets. Shiva temple is unique in this town. A large two acre plot of land in which the Shiva temple is situated. Here the Lord Kailasanathar is facing west side. And the goddess is facing south side in the temple.
The 6 days of sunlight falling on this Lord during March and September is special. It is called Bhaskara Shetram because Suryadev is worshipped in the temple. Vinayagar temple in the south-west and Valli Deivanai Sametha Murugan temple in the north-west. Only Durgai and Tenmukhan are present in the Lord’s sanctum sanctorum. Sandesar is beautiful. Navagraha and Bhairava shrines are in the north-east. Behind Vinayaka there is a small Shivalingam attached to the wall. Navalingam and Navavilvam trees are flourishing in the temple. There is a large pond behind the temple. Devotees from the surrounding villages take Pal Kavadi in the temple during Panguni Uthra festival.
