Introduction
Vadugachery Vishwanath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Located in the Vadugachery village, Nagai circle, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. Vadugachery can be reached by a 3-km south bank of the Kaduvaya River, which flows south of Kelvellur along Devur. In the centre of the town are the Periya Perumal Temple, Chelliyamman Temple and Varasidhi Vinayagar Iyanar Temple. Apart from these there is also a big Shiva temple. It seems to have decayed over time. Here the Presiding deity is called as Vishwanath and Mother is called asVishalaksi. Presently Lord Vishwanath is enshrined in it as a single sanctum sanctorum temple. Opposite to the lord sanctum are Vishalakshi and Sandesar. A statue of Lord Vishnu lies broken on the rest of the temple. Ganesha Murugan is on either side of the gate leading to the sanctum sanctorum. There are no Goshta Murthys. The temple is also in a state where a big tree has sprouted and decayed. The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old.
