Introduction
Athikailasanathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Loctaed in the Vadakku village, T Pudukkottai District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Athikailasanathar and Mother is called as Sivagami amman. The temple is under the control of the Department of Hindu Temples and is classified as a primary temple. The temple is believed to be 1000 Years old Shiva temple. The temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns sung by Appar.
Puranic Significance
The temple is located towards the east. The 3 Level Rajagopuram was erected in June 1990 during the Thirukuda Water Festival. Athikailasanathar towards the east in the sanctum beyond the Artha Mandapam. Ganesha around the sanctum sanctorum. The shrines of Subramanian, Chandikeswarar, Bhairavar, Sun and Moon were completely redone during the 1990 Kumbabhishekam. Mahavishnu Sridevi has risen under a tree in the outer circle with Bhudevi. The Ambal Sivagami amman is towards the south. The first sermon for the Manikkavasaka took place here at the Athikailasanathar temple. At present, the place where the Athikailasanathar temple is located is called Vadakkur (Vadakkalur) and the place where the Audaiyar temple is located is called Tenkur. Maharishis like Parashar, Pulastiyar, Agathiyar etc. are said to have worshiped the Lord here. The Athikailasanathar Temple is proud to have been built by Manikkavasakara.
