Introduction
Thenkarai Kailasanathar Temple is dedicated to lord Shiva, located Thenkarai village, Nagai circle, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu.There is a large pond adjacent to the temple.This temple is an east facing Shiva temple. A thousand years old temple, here the Lord is called as Kailasanathar and Ambikai name is not known. The Lord is towards the east side. In front of him is the Arthamandapam. There is a door structure in the east of the gate, through which one should see the Lord. Outside the window is Nandi and next to it is an altar on a beautiful platform.
Puranic Significance
The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. Vinayagar and Murugan are on either side of the south gate. The sanctum sanctorum and vimana are reminiscent of Chola period architecture; the sanctum sanctorum has a beautiful Dakshnamurthy. Vinayagar andValli theivanai samedha murugan is the main sanctum.
Navagraha and Bhairava, Sun are in North East side of the temple. There is a temple pond in the north-east of the village. If such temples are worshipped, the city will be prosperous. On the south side of the temple, there is a huge copper roof that hides the beauty of the temple. The direct current from outer space around the temple is blocked. It is known that a great temple has lost its status and has come to this state.
