Introduction
Udayadevarmalai is located in a village called Sukkampatti on the main road near Salem. This mountain is also called Devagiri. This mountain is like a small hill. On it is the Udayadevareesvara temple, which has been blessed towards the west for thousands of years. This temple has the distinction of being the first temple located at the place where marriage begins. It is a rare sight that the sun shines on the Lord in this temple every evening.
Puranic Significance
Although there are no documents available about the history of this temple, it is known that this temple may have been built before the time of Tipu Sultan. Also, there are inscriptions indicating that the temple was renovated on 7.9.1818. Otherwise, no details about the history of the temple are available. However, local people say that various special events have taken place in this temple.
Beliefs
Pradosham and Poornami Pujas, Karthika Deepa festival are celebrated in this temple. Special abhishekam, decorative worship is held at 12 midnight on full moon day. If you attend the Poornami Pooja held in this temple on 3 full moons in a row, the hindrance to marriage and Navagraha dosha will be removed. It is the belief of the devotees that if you pray and tie yellow flowers to the neem tree in front of Udayadevarewari Amman, the above things will come true in three months.
Special Features
In the beginning, there were only idols of Udayadevareeswarar, Vinayagar, Chandikeswarar and Nandi. At the same time, there was also a Mariamman temple in the town. As the Poornami Night Puja was going on in Udayadevareeswarar Temple, the devotees thought that Pradosha worship should be started. So they set up Udayadevareeswari Amman idol to the right of Shiva towards the east. It is generally believed that Pradosha worship should be done in the Shiva temple in Amman Sanctum, it is not enough that Udayadevareeswari Amman resided here and blessed the devotees.
The temple priest says that the ancient inscription has been found in the Vinayagar Sanctum here. The main tree of this temple is Yellow Arali. Devotees say that a flag tree was brought from Thonreeswarar temple in Belur and planted at this place. Situated at an altitude of about 500 feet.. Although it is a small temple, this temple where the Siddhars live, that fulfils the wishes of the devotees.
