Puranic Significance
- Historical Background:
- Many years ago, a flower garden was established in Sholavandan for pujas at the Anjaneya and Siddhi Vinayaka temples. This garden included various flowering plants like Parijatham, Nagalingam, and Mavalingam, which were known for their herbal properties.
- The garden fell into neglect over time, becoming overgrown with bushes and sheltering poisonous creatures.
- Discovery of the Idol:
- Approximately 40 years ago, locals began cleaning the area. While clearing around the Mavalinga tree, a young man discovered something buried beneath the ground. Upon digging three feet deeper, he unearthed an idol of Sani Bhagwan depicted on his crow vehicle.
- The discovery attracted many people, and with blessings from the Pontiffs of Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetam and Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, the residents decided to build a temple.
- The temple was constructed in 1975, and consecration ceremonies were held. Regular pujas are performed to the deity in both morning and evening sessions.
Beliefs
- Remedial Center: The temple is regarded as a remedial center for individuals born under the Scorpio sign, with devotees seeking blessings from Swayambu Saneeswara Bhagwan for various needs.
- Prayers for Blessings:
- Devotees believe that prayers here can bestow blessings such as the boon of children.
- Those who have faced property losses or family separations due to the seven-and-a-half years or Ashtama (Saturn’s transit through the eighth house) in their horoscopes seek recovery and reunion through prayers at this temple.
- Offerings:
- Devotees light lamps using ghee and dhil oil and offer dhil rice as Nivedhana (offering), along with performing acts of poor feeding. These rituals are believed to alleviate the negative influences of Saturn.
