Introduction
Seithur Amudeeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Seithur village, Mayiladuthurai circle, Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu. During the time of the Chola kings, the first paddy fields of Tanjai were transported from here, so this place was called Chotur and is now known as Seithur. Here the Presiding deity is called as Amudeeswarar and Mother is called as Tripagamalini.
Puranic Significance
The temple, which is more than seven hundred years old, was completely destroyed and buried, they excavated it in 1997 and placed a Vinayagar and a Shiva idol in a small shed nearby and worshiped there. Now a new temple has been built at the back of this place where the temple used to be.
A front hall connects the new temple, Nandimandapam, Shiva to the east and Ambal to the south. Behind the sanctum sanctorum are Vinayagar and Murugan Mahalakshmi Ayyappan in separate gopurams with new idols. The old idols and others are newly created. An Anjaneyar is towards the south. A broken linga pedestal is placed under it. Navagrahas, Bhairava in the northeast. Vinayagar Chelliyamman Mahamariamman, and Ayyanar.
