The temple, constructed during the 10th to 11th century AD, is attributed to King Someshwar Dev’s wife, Somal Devi. It adheres to the Vesara style of architecture, characterized by a blend of North and South Indian architectural elements. Within the temple’s sanctum, the presiding deity is enshrined in the form of a Shiva Lingam, which stands approximately 2 feet tall. In front of the sanctum, one can find the sacred Nandi, the bull associated with Lord Shiva.
The temple’s carvings and sculptures bear similarities to those found in the Battisa temple in Barsur. Notably, the temple’s significant feature is its large Shiva Lingam, crafted from sandstone, which captures considerable attention due to its size and height. This temple stands as a testament to the architectural and artistic prowess of its time.
