Introduction

                        Rishiyur Ekambareswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Located in the Rishiyur village, Needamangalam circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. Rishiyur is 6 km south of Needamangalam on the Rajamannargudi – Kumbakonam road. At that time, the town was known as Bhizur, which was the famous town of the Cholas. Rishiyur became the place where Vishwanatha Maharishi worshiped and was blessed. Lord Shiva in this town is also known as Thiruakatheeswaramudayar. The temple is said to be more than 1500 years old.

Lord-Ekambareswarar is at the centre of the village. This old temple was destroyed, only the front hall was rebuilt and simple repairs were done. Lord Ekambareswarar has sanctum facing east and Ambikai Kamakshi amman has sanctum facing south. In front of the Lord is the Nandi and altar. At the sanctum gate, Vinayaka Murugan Valli Deivanai, and Lakshmi Narayana and Sandesar, all the idols are placed inside the hall. There is no pooja conducted here.
