Introduction

Pillaiperumanallur Sri Abhi Muktheeshwarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Pillaiperumanallur, Tharangambadi circle, Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu. Pillaiperumal Nallur refers to the temple itself but east of it, this temple is made of Prastraramvarakara stone with parts of the old Chola period. There are many inscriptions in this temple. The temple, which was very dilapidated, has now been renovated and the Ambikai, Vinayagar and Murugan sanctum have also been erected. Here the primary deity is called as Lord Abhimuktheeswarar in the form of lingam and mother is called as Akhilandeshwari. The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old.
