Introduction
- Location: Nochikkattu Valasu Village, Erode District, Tamil Nadu.
- Primary Deity: Muniyappaswamy.
- The temple is 500 years old and is situated about 6 km from Erode.
- The village name Nochikkattu Valasu is derived from the Nochi trees that were originally found in the area.
- The temple was built on a site previously covered with white rocks, and thus the deity is referred to as White Muniyappa Swamy.
Puranic Significance:
- The eastern wall of the temple features carvings, and the gate inscription invites devotees to visit and have the darshan of the deity while in traditional attire.
- Inside the temple:
- Five stone swings and vels (sacred symbols) are present, where devotees pray for childbirth.
- On the right side, there are three horse-drawn carriages approximately 30 feet high, with figures of children to adults beneath them. These offerings are made by devotees seeking relief from grievances.
- On the left side, there are statues of two horses and two cows, which are also offerings to the deity.
Beliefs:
- Muniyappaswamy is worshipped for various purposes:
- Childbirth.
- House and vehicle construction.
- Health improvement and career development.
- Removal of obstacles in work and life.
- A red rope is tied on the right hand of devotees, especially for those suffering from illness, as a sign of invoking blessings for better health.
- Accomplished devotees perform Abhisheka worship (ritual bath) to Swayambu Muniyappa Swamy and express gratitude by offering goat and chicken to the deity.
Special Features:
- The temple has three central figures of Muniyappaswamy:
- The main deity, Swayambu Muniyappa Swamy, with Ondiveeran and Kannimar on the left, and Karupparayan on the right.
- All abhisheka prayers are performed to Swayambu Muniyappa Swamy.
- There is a separate shrine for Karpaka Ganesha located in the south-west corner.
- In the north-west corner, there is a type of tree called the Ancient Ayam Tree.
Festivals:
- Special worship services are held on Friday Amavasya (new moon day) and on other special days for Muniyappaswamy.
