Introduction

Neyveli Anandaramaganapathi Temple is dedicated to Lord Ganapathi, located in the Neyveli, Kurinchipadi circle, Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu. Here the Primary deity is called as Anandaramaganapathi.

Puranic Significance

A few thousand years ago, sage Vipusithu lived in this area. Then one day the Lord appeared in a dream and told him to build a temple on the banks of Manimuthattaru. Again and again in a dream, he gathers the people of the village and says that he has got the order to build the temple and starts the work.

It became his job to give away the leaves to the faithful. The lingam is broken when stone is taken from the Himalayas to make the original lingam. He says that this happened because the Lord appeared in a dream and started the work without performing Vignesvara Pooja. Sage Vipusithu says I will not worship any deity other than you. Since your own indolence and your unethical thoughts are reflected in this temple built by you, the Lord orders you to leave this temple immediately, saying that you are not worthy to consecrate the Linga in this temple.

Vipushithu asks you to forgive me. And the Lord was moved, and from here go a little north-east, and there I will show you when I call you, and look back towards the west. He sends people there to do welfare work. While going like this, he calls in today’s Neyveli. Looking back, the wise man is shown by both God. Vipusithu stays there as per the Lord’s order and becomes liberated.

Special Features

The place where the Lord appeared is the place we see today, the Anandaram Ganapathi Temple. At the place he found thus, a temple has been set up with the name Amritkadesar Abhrami, dedicated to the eastern lingamurthy and amphika.

Toward the west they dedicate a Vinayaka and name it after Deekshadar as Anandaram Ganapathi Temple. Earlier, the temple he built was called Thirumudukunram. Vinayagar is enshrined mainly towards the west in this temple. In front is a long tin shed. To the east are the temples of Lord Amritakadesar and Ambikai Abhirami.
