Establishment: The temple was established following persistent demands from the growing Bengali expatriate population. An acre of land was allocated on Mandir Marg for the construction of the temple, which was built to resemble the Kalighat Kali Temple in Kolkata.

- 1935: The mandir committee was formalized with Subhas Chandra Bose as its first president. The inauguration of the first Mandir Building was carried out by Sir Justice Manmatha Nath Mukherjee.
