Introduction

Nedungudi Kailasanathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Nedungudi village, Thiruvarur circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. The name Nedunkudi is because it is the place where God has been living for a long time. It can be said that the temples named after Kailasanatha are more than a thousand years old. Here on the banks of the big pond in the center of the village is the Shiva temple facing east, Lord – Kailasanathar Lord – Anandavalli

Puranic Significance

The temple complex is spread over an area of more than two acres. Meenakshi is set up at the main gate. In front of the sanctum sanctorum is the arthamandapam, which has two large statues of dwarapalakas at the entrance to the sanctum sanctorum. In the Arthamandapa there is a small Nandi and an altar, and the Lord has a very small statue in the middle with a large statue. In front of the Mahamandapam there is Nandi in the Thanimandapam and after that there is an altar in a beautiful peedam. If you bow down to the beautiful Nandi and enter the front hall, on the left side is the beautiful Vinayagar carved with the goddess on a large stone.

To the left of Vinayaka are four idols made of cement and facing east. On the other side of the entrance is a small Vallitheivanaisamedhamurugan. Adjacent to Muruga is a small shrine with a linga murti facing east. On the north side of the Mahamandapam there is the Ambikai shrine facing south with a beautiful shape. On the other side of the sanctum are Lord and Surya. The outside of the sanctum sanctorum is beautifully carved with Kumbha Pancharams and the Dakshna Murthy in a beautiful form in the south. There are no other deities in the Goshtas. The temple is big and Beautiful, without proper maintenances.
