Puranic Significance:
- Legend of Nandi’s Curse: Nandi, Shiva’s sacred bull, disrespected the Dwarapalakas (gatekeepers of Vishnu) and was cursed with oppressive heat. Shiva advised Nandi to do penance in Shenbakaranyam, near Kumbakonam, where Lakshmi was also meditating. Vishnu, impressed by Nandi’s penance, relieved him from the curse.
