Puranic Significance

This temple, which was in a dilapidated state for many years, has been reconstructed. The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old.  There is no gopuram on the eastern side of the temple and only a lingam is shown above the small gate. The temple, built entirely of brick, has an auspicious hall with a two-tiered flight called the Nandi Mandapam. The Lord’s sanctuary is towards the south. In front of him is the front hall. It is a Chola- era temple but has undergone changes in the intervening times. Vinayakar Tenmugan and Maha Vishnu Brahma are in the small domes of the sanctum sanctorum.

Raja Durga appears on a lion vehicle with eight arms. A shrine has been set up for him on the south side of the temple facing east. A reminder of the history, there are idols of Lord Valli with a broken stone under a big tree in the north of the temple. In the north-east hall there are Navagraha, Kalabhairava, Shanibhagwan and a lingamurthy.

This temple is worshiped by a priest named Parthasarathy. The father donated all the money from his son’s wedding to rebuild this dilapidated temple. His name is Mr. Parthasarathy.
